Jonabeth Rivera
My name is Lieutenant Colonel Jonabeth Rivera, US Army. I was born and raised in the Philippines. I am married to retired Police Superintendent Martin Rivera, and we have three children: Michael (22), Maya (19), and Meghan (8). My interests include martial arts, in which I hold black belts in karate and Taekwondo; distance running, including half marathons and triathlons; and volunteering with the American Red Cross and my local church. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington, a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Philippines, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from the University of Massachusetts.
I currently serve as co-president of the School of Nursing Graduate Student Organization, as a Nursing Executive Board member of the iSERVE free clinic, and as a UVA International Students Global Greeter. I have volunteered with the Incarnation Church and Blue Ridge Food Bank in Charlottesville. Additionally, I support Communities in Schools of Northern Virginia, assisting local families and students to remain engaged and successful in school. As a dedicated Red Cross volunteer, I serve Central Virginia as a Disaster Health Services and Blood Donor Ambassador.
