He facilitates an international community of practice on coaching graduate students and organizes social and career events for STEMPeers -- a peer mentoring platform.

Brendan Delaney
A native of Northern Ireland, Brendan received his Juris Doctor at The Catholic University of America in Washington DC, in January 2009. Focusing on the representation of foreign-born nationals, and US employers with their US immigration matters, his work includes an emphasis on Extraordinary Ability and National Interest Waiver cases, as well as EB-1B, PERM, J-Waiver, H1B, O and P Visa applications. Brendan works extensively with scientists, researchers, physicians, and other professionals, as well as organizations and employers in both academia and industry. He assists with their temporary and permanent visa applications on a company, individual, and institutional basis.
He has been invited to speak on a number of occasions at the Annual Meeting of the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA), and NAFSA Region VIII, as well as conducting legal seminars at Universities and institutions across the United States. Brendan has co-authored numerous articles related to postdoctoral issues for the Post Docket (quarterly newsletter of the NPA), and currently serves on their Advisory Council. He has also been quoted in a number of news and media articles related to immigration issues for scientists and researchers.

Speaker: Damien Lieber
Damien is a sustainability strategy consultant at ENGIE Impact, the client advisory arm of energy group ENGIE with the purpose to “Make Sustainability Happen Today”. He is based in New York. His focus there is on deploying green hydrogen in the United States and decarbonizing cloud services.
Prior to ENGIE Impact, he worked at BCG in New York as a consultant with experience in global strategy, digital transformation, and sustainability primarily in the finance and energy industries. He holds a PhD in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from UVA as well as MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany and the University of Lyon in France.

Speaker: Emmanuel Toroitich
Emmanuel graduated in August 2020 with a Ph.D. in Chemistry. He is currently a senior analyst at Health Advances, a healthcare-focused strategic consulting firm with offices in Boston, San Francisco, Switzerland, and Hong Kong. Before joining Health Advances, he did a short postdoc stint as an innovation advisor with RTI International. To prepare for consulting while at UVA, he worked with UVA consulting club, licensing and venture group, and Ph.D. Plus.

Join DH@UVA and PhD Plus in a panel discussion about transitioning from graduate school into careers outside the professoriate and GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums), such as tech, public policy, and private industry. This event is open to all but tailored especially for graduate students in the digital humanities with an interest in private- and public-sector work. A collaboration between PhD Plus and DH@UVA, invited speakers from the world of business, startups, think tanks, and more will share insights about their professional experiences and their thoughts on how graduate students can direct skills acquired in the digital humanities toward fulfilling careers outside of higher education and GLAM.
